This week we will be talking about how letter sounds work together to make words. We will begin with 2 and 3 letter words. A great way to help your child gain confidence with reading is to have him/her read a book several times. Point out words that are used over and over again. Encourage your child to "sound out" the words that he/she doesn't know. Make sure to point at each word as it is read--this helps with tracking print, which will become increasingly difficult as the text on the pages increases.
Click here for this week's Decodable Reader! If your child is not yet ready to read independently, you can still read the book out loud. After the book reading play "I Spy" and look for letters on the page, count the number of words on each page, and clap out the syllables of the longest words.
